I am Abdullah, an MCS student at Dalhousie University, where I work in the Persuasive Computing Lab with Dr. Rita Orji. My research asks what happens to people when they live alongside AI, especially how language models and recommender systems shape the way we think and the way we see one another. I draw on human-computer interaction and computational social science because the social sciences hold generations of careful wisdom about people, and carrying that wisdom into AI can help the technology we build understand the people it serves a little better.

Many of the most lasting lessons in my life came from simply hearing someone out, and I remain grateful to everyone who made my path possible, from my mother to the elementary school teacher who once patted me on the back and blessed me to grow up to be a good person :) I try to honor that by giving back, so I mentor students and expats on higher education and managing money, and it still amazes me how much a small piece of information can change in someone’s life.

Away from research, you will usually find me behind a camera. Photography, along with my love of history and anthropology, keeps reminding me how many different ways people across the world find beauty and live by their values.
